Cross Country Begins Season At Hawkeye Invitational

first_imgThe Drake University men’s and women’s cross country teams begin their 2018 season Friday evening at the Hawkeye Invitational in Iowa City, Iowa.The Bulldogs will use the annual meet as their initial training benchmark following the team’s first week of training.Due to anticipated inclement weather in Iowa City, Friday’s starting time has been moved up to 5 p.m. at the Ashton Cross Country Course.Drake’s women will race first in a 4-kilometer race followed by the men’s 6-kilometer race. The Bulldogs open the season by competing against Iowa, Iowa State, UNI, Illinois State and Iowa Central.Drake’s men’s team returns its top two runners from a season ago in senior Josh Yeager (Center Point, Iowa) and sophomore Maximilian Fridrich (Salzburg, Austria). Fridrich is the reigning Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Year after turning in a fifth-place performance at the MVC Championship.Drake’s women’s squad continues its youthful rebuild with just three upperclassmen on the roster.Following Friday’s season opener, the Bulldogs travel north for their next competition, the Oz Memorial in Minneapolis, Minn.
