Huston Named MVC Elite 18 Award Winner

first_imgDES MOINES, Iowa – Drake University senior Emma Huston (Des Moines, Iowa) has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Track & Field Elite 18 Award winner, the conference announced at the conclusion of the MVC Championship.Modeled after the NCAA Elite 89 Academic Recognition Award Program, the MVC Elite 18 award is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average competing at the finals site at each of the MVC’s 18 team championships.The award is the second this season for Huston, who was named the recipient during the cross country season, and the third of her career.At the 2016 MVC Outdoor Championship, Huston won her first MVC title in the final race of her career at an MVC meet in the 5,000 meters. Her time 16:27.19 to bested the field by more than eight seconds.Earlier in the day, she finished just a split second away from a title in the 1,500 meters in with a time of 4:27.36 to take second place.The MVC title and Elite 18 Award adds to Huston’s burgeoning legacy at Drake. In addition to her three MVC Elite 18 Awards, she owns four school records and has been named MVC Student-Athlete of the Week six times this season.Huston, who owns a 3.97 grade point average, also received her degree, summa cum laude, in biology and environmental science from Drake this past weekend.Print Friendly Versionlast_img read more
